I recently had the absolute pleasure of dining at Safran in Newmarket with a group of friends, and it was truly an outstanding culinary experience from start to finish. Tucked away on Davis Crescent, this restaurant offers a warm, inviting atmosphere that is perfect for a relaxed evening. The ambiance is delightfully European. We ordered a variety of dishes to share, and every single plate was impressive. The Seafood Paella was a visual delight, arriving piping hot. The rice was cooked to perfection, absorbing all the rich spices, while the mussels and calamari were fresh and tender. A squeeze of lemon brought the flavors to life. The Steak with Mushroom Sauce was easily the highlight. The beef was cooked exactly to our liking, but the creamy mushroom sauce was the real star rich, savory, and absolutely delicious paired with the smooth mashed potatoes. We also thoroughly enjoyed the Prawn Pasta, which was incredibly generous. The prawns were massive and succulent, tossed in a light sauce with capers that added a wonderful tangy contrast. Finally, the Pan-fried Fish was a lovely lighter option. The fillet was flaky and moist, served alongside a crisp, fresh green salad that provided a nice balance to the richer dishes. The service was friendly and attentive, and the portion sizes offered fantastic value for money. The menu is extensive and has something for everyone. If you are in Auckland and craving authentic, hearty Mediterranean cuisine, Safran is definitely the place to go. I will certainly be returning very soon for another fantastic meal.

We used the First Table half price deal. I love that the menu isn’t flashy—just simple, straightforward, delicious food. The duck risotto was amazing, and unlike most Italian spots that I find too salty, this one was perfectly balanced. The portions were generous, the staff were super friendly, and I’d definitely want to go back!

I wish there were more stars. Amazing customer service. The food is sooo good, and Mia is a sweetheart, huge shoutout to her. Would tell more and more of my friends about this place. It is so underrated. Do try their tiramisu, delicious <3
